The leaves are starting to change and the rakes are out. Fall is here.
That may mean pumpkin spice lattes (PSLs right?) or that may mean something else.
Let's dive into our list of 11 things every man should attempt to do this fall season.
Your checklist starts here:
Apple Picking - at least here in Michigan, fall = apple picking. This is a family tradition for many, but nothing beats walking the orchard and picking fresh apples right off the tree. Bonus - you can usually get some fresh cider and donuts after! Some places are even getting into the hard cider game.
Cook up some food at a Tailgate - Even if you're not attending the game, a fall tailgate is a Saturday/Sunday well spent. Get a group of friends, have a few beers and grill up some fall favorites. Chili dogs sound great!
Rake leaves, then jump in them - the leaves are definitely starting to fall. You know they need to be cleaned up. Why not make it fun? As a kid you probably loved jumping in a pile of leave - re-live that joy or show your kids how it's done!
Attend a football game under the lights - if you've already got the tailgate, you might as well head into the game. A game under the lights on a fall evening makes for even better football. You just need to hope your team wins!
Enjoy a beer around a bonfire - cracking a cold one around a bonfire personifies fall. We tend to gravitate towards stouts or barrel-aged beers this time of year, but whatever your preference is, you'll be sure to enjoy. Good company, good beer and a warm fire can't be beat. Cheers!
Carve a jack-o-lantern - get those carving tools out, grab a pumpkin and get creative! Carving a pumpkin is a halloween staple. Do you prefer a traditional jack-o-lantern or do you get really detailed?
Wear flannel - you need to dress the part. While fall means the end of summer, it also means it's time to bust out those flannel shirts. We've got a closet full of them!
Spend time in the woods - fall is the ideal time for anything and everything outdoors. The days are still warm enough and an evening fire makes camping ideal. Hit the trails and walk around your local state parks. Depending on the season you'll get some great leaf pepping in. And if you're into hunting this is the time of year to get that deer. Good luck!
Prepare and carve your first turkey - get the oven hot and sharpen the knife. As the
man of the household you may be responsible for the Thanksgiving turkey.
Read a book - reading can be a great break from the norm, from screen time or as a way to relax before bed. Pick a topic you enjoy, set the phone aside and indulge your mind. Readers are leaders.
And lastly, chop some damn wood - Winter is around the corner and you'll need some firewood. Whether for a bonfire or the fireplace, make sure you have enough to keep the family warm! Chopping wood is also a great way to spend time outside and can be a great workout.
Happy Fall Y'all (sorry, we had to).
